Ryan Anthony Lucero AKA KIC (Keep it Coming) Beats, born December 22nd. KIC Beats is originally from West LA / Santa Monica area and grew up in Norwalk La Mirada. His mother Maria from Puerto Rico grew up in Bronx NY and his father Robert a Latin jazz vocalist and percussionist from LA grew up in the Venice Beach area. KIC youngest of four children grew up with pianos, drum kits, synthesizers and a musically gifted family. His parents, brother Rick and sisters Jill and Lori took notice to his passion for music early on. His brother a notable musician in the music scene was the lead guitarist for the legendary Stevie Wonder and also played with Jazz heavy weights such as Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Sal Marquez and many more. Rick encouraged KIC and taught him basic fundamentals; at age nine his brother showed him how to produce, adding bridges. Learning Piano as a child and studying college level electronic music recording while still a freshman in high school, KIC went on to develop a style that has made his sound unique. By combining Jazz, Classical, Funk, Reggae, and electronic elements to hip hop, he has created a style and sound all his own.
He is influenced by the exceptional naming his top 3 producers; Dilla, Primo and Pete Rock. He stated in an interview with freelance writer Charli T. AKA TerminKNOWLEDGEE “Dilla touched my soul” and describing all three of the producers as majestic as well as royalty in his mind. Some of the groups that influenced him are The Native Tongues Family (De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, etc), Juice Crew, NWA, Dr Dre, ICE-T, KRS-BDP, Eric B and Rakim, Eric Sermon, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5, the list goes on and on. KIC would like to work with people he admires and believes will compliment his sound such as, Kendrick Lamar, KRS, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface, Q-tip, Anderson .Paak, Dwele and Pharoahe Monch just to name a few. Musical influences include: James Brown, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, David Axelrod, and more.
Kic landed his first record deal in high school at age 15 with DJ Rhettmatic of the beat junkies. Rhettmatic heard Kic rap at an 18 and under party, approached him ready to do work. Their demos were shopped to EMI who at the time was trying to develop another hip hop group. They offered him a 2-year deal, being underage Kic needed his parents to allow it. Rick (his brother) got involved knowing the music business first hand, listened to the deal, looked over the contract and advised against it. After listening to the producer EMI had commissioned Kic knew it was not the contract for him, while maintaining his musical dignity he respectfully declined. Kic’s first placement was with the Blast Master and Teacher, KRS-ONE on the Temple of Hip Hop Volume 1 record. After a couple of years of self-discovery friend and rhyme partner Jericho found Kic on Myspace. Kic joined Jericho producing 2 songs on Jerrico’s album, Against The Grain released January 2008. That project brought Kic back to the game; he started making, recording, and creating beats again. In 2010 Kic and Jerrico brought style and substance back in a collaboration, exclusively produced by Kic entitled, In Motion.
2013 Kic’s beat was featured on the Canibus album, Historic, which featured The HRSMN (Rass Kass, Canibus, Killah Priest, & Kurupt, featuring Tragedy Khadafi). Now back in the game, old friend Omah “O-Phrap”Ekott; asked Kic for some folders. O-Phrap sent them to Wordsworth of eMC who passed them to Masta Ace, Kic’s beats were used for eMC’s Tonight Show album. Wordsworth requested more folders, after listening to some sample free music Masta Ace reached out to Kic in interest. Kic confidently said “I can work on a few tracks for you.” Ace then clarified that he wanted him to work on the whole album, making him the first exclusive producer of any Masta Ace album. Kic knew although a big assignment he could do it. Masta Ace released his 6th solo album The Falling Season May 13, 2016. New school beats with old school soul!
Kic is currently in the lab working on projects with Ed O.G.; Prince PO; El Da Sensai as well as remixes with Masta Ace.
